Having a Football coaching buisness was a dream, that I made come true. With sacrifices, determination and a never give in attitude I fulfilled my dream.
As you are all aware, I suffered for being successful.
“Criticised for being successful and criticised for being unsuccessful”
I had to reinvent my business every year, due to competition, new initiatives or to make more money.
BTW I never made that much that I could drive a flashy car, I had a van.
I wasn’t in it for the money anyway, neither the fame. But to be recognised as a hard working coach, and bringing opportunities for all children of all kinds of abilities.
One day whilst coaching at Ysgol Bryn Elian I recieved a phone call from Jay Proburt who worked for the Welsh Football Trust ( Faw Trust)
He stated that a complaint had been made about me using the word “Academy”
I listened whilst he went through the complainant views and that of the Faw Trust.
Then I replied, clearly and with knowledge
I asked for Proof to be shown where in law that I could not use the word “Academy”
I also asked if the Faw Trust or Football Association of Wales had bought/ paid for the right to have exclusivity for the use of the word #Academy
This knowledge came from the Olympics in 2012 where you could not use protected words like Olympics or the names of the mascots, as they had some kind of copyright and it would be an infringement of sponsors money.
Jay Proburt was not ready for my response, in fact I felt great educating him on the legal side and terminology whilst he put his Faw Trust iron fist back down.
I stated clearly, I would not listen to his threats as I was confident of my response to him, I also asked who had made the complaint
I bet you cannot guess who it was ???????
You guessed it, Jay Proburt stated a “Mike Smith” had Contacted him.
Further proof of the lengths Police officer Mike Smith went to.
Now this was all done by phone, so if any one wants it confirmed, contact Jay Proburt or the Faw Trust for clarification. I understand Jay Proburt has left but you can still find means to contact him.
Footnote. Jay Proburt later stated, what he said was advice,
so I stated, “it’s advice only”
in return I stated, do not have a go at myself or company for any other reason unless it’s for positive reinforcement I deserved.
Another Footnote Jay Proburt put the phone down after I gave him names of other Companies in Wales using the Word “Academy ” I hope you’re calling them as well.
I asked the Faw Trust for a subject access request for my name on file in regards this complaint.
